What is font subsetting?
CJK fonts often weigh several megabytes because they contain tens of thousands of glyphs. Subsetting keeps only the characters you actually use and drops the rest — often a 90%+ size reduction and much faster page loads.
When do I need font subsetting?
Embedding a brand font on a website, bundling fonts in a mini-program or e-book, or printing fixed slogans — anywhere the character set is essentially fixed, subset before you embed.
Some characters are missing after subsetting. What now?
A missing glyph means that character was not in the keep list. Add it to the text box and regenerate; start from the preset character set and append any rare characters from your copy.
WOFF2, WOFF or TTF — which one?
All modern browsers support WOFF2 and it is the smallest, so prefer it for the web. Use TTF for legacy systems or local installation; WOFF sits in between.
Is my font uploaded to a server?
No. Subsetting and compression run entirely in your browser — the font file never leaves your device, so commercially licensed fonts are safe to process.
